Love on the Menu: Hily Drops Dating Fortunes in LA’s Restaurants
Your dating life’s next big sign might just be hiding in a cookie
Los Angeles, March 24, 2025 — As American daters continue to show great interest in mystical guidance for their love lives, dating app Hily teamed with OpenFortune to distribute dating-focused fortune cookies to restaurants in Los Angeles.

Recent research by Hily, surveying 1,450 American women, highlights the following trends:
- 48% have checked astrological compatibility before dating or entering a relationship.
- 1 in 3 have used tarot cards for insights into their love lives.
- 1 in 4 are likely to consult fortune tellers, mediums, or psychics for relationship guidance.
These findings reflect daters’ desires for clarity and guidance in their love lives — something they seek not only from science-backed tools, like Hily’s new compatibility quiz, Icks & Clicks, but from the metaphysical realm as well. Hily’s fortune cookies tap into that interest with a playful twist on the message, “Destiny is hard to read.” Each fortune is written in either a tiny font or ‘leetspeak,’ where numbers replace letters, giving diners a literal taste of how hard it can be to interpret what fate is trying to say. A QR code lets diners download Hily.

“Destiny is hard to read — especially when it comes to dating. But we all try, and we all look for good signs. We wanted to create a few more of those for the people in LA. Dating can feel stressful enough, so why not spread a little romantic, feel-good energy?” says Julia Kolesnyk, Head of Brand & Communications at Hily.
Starting Monday, March 24, the dating fortune cookies will be available at LA restaurants for about two months.
