A recent study by Hily of 2,500 Americans reveals a shocking reality:
- 62% of daters report that their online dating experience makes them feel like they aren’t “perfect enough” for someone to like them;
- 79% of people are willing to overlook minor flaws in someone they like;
- 90% agree that the idea of a “perfect match” is unique to each person;
- 89% agree that dating is only enjoyable when people are honest and show their true selves.
These findings reveal a disconnect: while people are open-minded about others, they often judge themselves harshly. So Hily’s outdoor campaign has arrived in Los Angeles and San Diego to remind daters that perfection is personal, and authenticity is key to making meaningful connections.
Based on Hily’s tagline “Date as you are,” the campaign delivers the message from different angles with a fun spirit. The billboards tell readers that “your perfect is imperfect, but that’s okay,” highlighting that everyone has their flaws, but the right person won’t see them as a dealbreaker.

Ads on bus stops remind us that no great love story starts with faking. One in three Americans have agreed with a match just to seem more likable, even though they held a differing opinion. To call daters’ attention to how unnecessary that is, the ads offer two types of messages: one that is honest and another driven by the desire to be liked.

Ads in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter hype daters up to make a move in the dating scene. If you like someone — don’t keep it a secret. If you want a genuine connection — don’t hide your true self.
