A happy person is most commonly associated with positive thinking and a positive attitude towards everything. But true happiness is more complicated than this simplified vision and includes:

  • Taking control over your own actions in life
  • Taking responsibility for your well-being
  • Understanding that bad things happen in the world – but they are not forever
  • Choosing to focus on good things while dealing with unhappiness in the past or current situation

So, what traits should you develop to reach that level of happiness? Here are some things to recognize on your journey to become one of happy people.

4 things that won't make you a happy person

4 Things a Happy Person Never Does

When you want to achieve something but don’t know how to make it happen, the easiest start is to know which behaviors are better to avoid in your journey. Let’s take the time to recognize four key things most truly happy people never do.

1. Worry About the Things They Cannot Change

If you want to become happy, stop worrying about things you have no power over. Most people waste a lot of energy on wrong worries rather than using it for something meaningful. Don’t repeat their mistake: let go of things you cannot fix or change and focus that energy on more important areas instead.

2. Compare Themselves to Others

A really happy person knows they are different from others, so there is no sense to compare people. They met people with different versions and even definitions of ideal happiness, and they find it beautiful.

Happy people know they have control over their own life, and constantly comparing themselves to others won’t bring it closer to their goals. We all have our own life’s challenges towards happiness and move their at our own pace. Some people even choose not find happiness in their life at all – so you cannot expect people being the same even here.

3. Neglect Their Self Care

Happy people know they cannot accomplish great things in life if they don’t properly care for themselves. They don’t smoke, drink too much alcohol, or engage in wrongful behaviors. Instead, they focus on all the great things for their physical and mental health:

  • Practice gratitude
  • Never put their self-esteem down
  • Drip with self-confidence
  • Invest in keeping their body healthy

By caring for their own health, people tend to become happier – and if they are consistent with that, they maintain this feeling for their whole lives.

4. Overwork Themselves

A happy person knows how to maintain a work-life balance. They have a satisfying career yet don’t forget to spend time with friends and family members. Working hard is necessary, but genuinely happy people know that it’s not what makes life wonderful.

Happy people don’t dissolve their own self in work to enjoy life in the distant future. They know how to feel happy in their daily life – right here and right now. It’s much easier to have a positive outlook on the world when you don’t use every ounce of your energy trying to tend to your potential emotions in the future.

5 things happy people spend their lives on

5 Things a Happy Person Always Does

Now that we know things you shouldn’t do to feel grateful for the gift of life, what are the common traits happy people cultivate? Let’s look over all of their daily practices you can use in your own life.

1. Accept Things Aren’t Always Perfect

Most of the time, happy people tend to live in the present moment. This does not mean they don’t reflect on the past or think about the future. Still, happy people have enough courage to accept that ideal doesn’t exist, the world is not a positive place, and bad days happen pretty often. And with all these things accepted, they are still happy people.

Many people tend to face harsh reality from time to time. What makes happy people different is that they don’t spend too much time speculating or feeling worried about these less than ideal moments.

2. Express Gratitude

Happy people have a tendency to express gratitude more than pessimistic people. It doesn’t matter how much money is spent on a present, or how close they are with their friend or family members. They are always grateful for the things that make them happy and always eager to find new purposes to grow gratitude in their lives.

3. Spend Time With Their Loved Ones

Happy people will always find time to spend with the people that they love. If they can’t find it, they will still make it.

You cannot buy happiness, and neither love costs any money. That’s why happy people validate their friends and close people are worthy of love as frequently as possible.

4. Surround Themselves With Other Happy People

Happy people choose spending time with other happy people and don’t shy away from candid feedback from them. They mitigate the negativity by choosing to fill their life with positive social connections. This way, they feel less stress and are more positive as they spend time with the happy people who increase their level of happiness.

5. Live in the Present Moment

Happy people realize there is no need to dwell on the past or the future. They understand there is no need to worry about things that have already happened or imagine how those things could have affected their lives. They don’t stress about the future either, as happy people realize that the future will always be uncertain and that it’s best to be positive about the potential outcome.

Stress costs energy, and happy people focus that energy on the present.

I’ve always been inspired by women who are outgoing, very sure of themselves, and not afraid to be who they were, including their sex lives. Under their tutelage, I gradually shed my old self, hung out and socialized with them, and, over time, became the empowered, self-confident, and sexual woman I am today.
